The M4A2(75) was distinguished by its twin General Motors diesel engines, making it particularly suited for Marine Corps use, where logistical considerations favored diesel over gasoline. In the Pacific Theater, these Shermans were often modified in the field with improvised armor, stowage, and adaptations to cope with jungle warfare and entrenched Japanese defenses. From Tarawa to Okinawa, Marine tank crews relied on the M4A2s reliability and firepower to support infantry in some of the most challenging combat environments of World War II.
