An American designed light tank produced for service with British airborne forces. Entering production in late 1943, a total of 830 were produced. Of these, 260 were shipped to Great Britain. Only 8 Locusts were to see active use during Operation varsity in March 1945. At the end of WWII, the M22 was used by the Belgian Army as a command vehicle and several companies employed by the Egyptian Army during the 1948 ArabIsraeli War.
